Tamil Nadu constituencies head to polls again in six months

Voters in Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies will return to polling stations on Tuesday for byelections, less than six months after previous electoral contests in the region. The twin byelections will see participation from more than 2.13 lakh registered voters in Madurantakam and approximately 2.23 lakh voters in Dharapuram, according to electoral data.

To ensure smooth conduct of the polling process and encourage participation, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a public holiday across both constituencies on voting day. The simultaneous byelections underscore the frequent electoral activity in these constituencies, reflecting shifting political dynamics in the state.

The byelections assume significance as they provide another opportunity for voters to determine representation in the state assembly. The short interval between electoral exercises in the same constituencies highlights the volatile political situation that has necessitated multiple voting rounds within a brief timeframe.
