The Tamil Nadu government has given the green light to set up a dedicated public sector undertaking to oversee execution of major infrastructure and construction projects in the state. The new entity, to be known as Tamil Nadu Infrastructure and Construction Corporation, will handle projects valued at Rs 200 crore and beyond.

The decision aims to streamline project delivery and ensure quality execution of large-scale government infrastructure initiatives. By establishing a specialized PSU with expertise in managing complex construction ventures, the state expects to improve efficiency and reduce delays in project completion.

The new corporation will be modelled on NBCC (India) Ltd, the centrally-owned engineering and construction entity that has extensive experience in executing high-value infrastructure projects across the country. NBCC's operational framework and project management practices will serve as a reference for structuring the Tamil Nadu undertaking.

The move reflects the state government's focus on strengthening its capacity to implement capital-intensive development schemes. With dedicated institutional oversight, major infrastructure projects in sectors such as transportation, energy, water resources, and urban development are expected to benefit from improved planning and execution standards.

The establishment of the undertaking comes as Tamil Nadu continues to prioritize infrastructure development as a key driver of economic growth and social development in the state.
