Tamil Nadu authorities have declared October 6 a public holiday to facilitate voting in bypolls scheduled for the Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies. The measure aims to ensure maximum voter participation across the two segments that are going to polls.
An official order stipulated that the holiday applies not only to residents of the two constituencies but also extends to employees who work in Chengalpattu, Tiruppur and surrounding districts while maintaining voter registrations in Madurantakam and Dharapuram. These workers will be entitled to paid leave to enable them to exercise their franchise.
The order ensures that geographical distance does not become a barrier to voting, accommodating the reality that many voters work in districts adjacent to their home constituencies. This approach is intended to remove potential obstacles for the electorate across the affected areas.
The bypolls assume significance in the state's political landscape, with both constituencies drawing considerable attention from major political parties contesting the elections.
