Tamil Nadu districts activate monsoon control rooms amid flood warnings

District officials across four Tamil Nadu districts have operationalized integrated control rooms designed to coordinate responses to monsoon-related complaints and emergencies. The facilities in Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai will serve as central command centres for managing weather-induced incidents during the rainy season.

In a precautionary measure, authorities have cautioned residents living in villages along the Palar River banks against crossing the waterway. The advisory comes as heavy rainfall raises the possibility of increased water flow in the river, potentially creating hazardous conditions for those attempting to traverse the crossing points.

District administration has issued directives for inhabitants in low-lying and flood-vulnerable areas to move to designated government shelter homes or other safe locations away from riverbanks. These preventive relocations aim to minimize risk to life and property ahead of potential flooding events.

The control rooms will function as nodal agencies for receiving and addressing complaints related to waterlogging, flooding, and other weather-related disruptions. Officials have urged residents to contact the facilities with any emergency situations or requests for assistance during the monsoon period.
