Tamil Nadu has rolled out an expanded version of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme, extending nutritional support to a significantly larger student population across the state. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the extended programme, which will now encompass around 15.3 lakh students studying in Classes VI to VIII.
The scheme covers 15,454 government and government-aided schools throughout Tamil Nadu, marking a substantial broadening of the existing breakfast initiative. The expansion aims to address nutritional deficiencies among middle-school children and support improved learning outcomes in the classroom.
The Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme, named after the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, is designed to provide students with essential nutrition during their formative years. Officials stated that the programme aligns with the state government's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and student welfare across Tamil Nadu's public school system.
The initiative represents a significant investment in the health and education sectors, with the state government prioritizing breakfast provision as a crucial component of its student welfare framework. Implementation across the extensive network of schools is expected to commence in the coming weeks.
