Tamil Nadu Fire Service clears over 10,000 firecracker retail outlets

The Tamil Nadu Fire Service Department has expedited approvals for firecracker retail operations, issuing no-objection certificates (NOCs) to over 10,000 applicants across the state. The move comes as vendors prepare for the upcoming festive season when demand for firecrackers typically peaks.
While the NOCs represent clearance from fire safety authorities, shop owners must complete an additional licensing process to commence operations. Applicants are required to approach the District Revenue Officer in their respective districts or the Commissioner of Police in municipal areas to obtain formal retail licenses.
The licensing authorities will base their approval decisions on the NOCs issued by the Fire Service Department, which confirms that proposed retail locations meet fire safety standards and storage requirements. This two-stage approval process ensures compliance with both fire safety regulations and local law enforcement requirements.
The clearance of such a large number of outlets reflects preparations by authorities to facilitate firecracker sales while maintaining regulatory oversight. Officials have not announced specific timelines for the completion of the subsequent licensing stage, though the volume of applications suggests a coordinated effort to process permits before peak shopping periods.
