Tamil Nadu gears up for northeast monsoon with 98% readiness

Tamil Nadu is on high alert as the northeast monsoon season approaches, with the revenue department confirming that nearly 98% of preparedness activities have been completed. Revenue Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan stated that the department had conducted multiple review meetings to assess readiness across all administrative divisions.

The comprehensive preparations include measures to strengthen drainage systems, shore up coastal defences, and position emergency response teams across vulnerable districts. Officials have worked to ensure that critical infrastructure in flood-prone areas can withstand heavy rainfall expected during the season.

The state's disaster management framework has been activated to coordinate between various departments, including local administration, public works, and emergency services. Authorities have also reviewed protocols for evacuations and relief operations in anticipation of potential weather disruptions.

With the monsoon season typically bringing significant rainfall to Tamil Nadu between October and December, the state's advance preparations aim to minimise disruptions to daily life and protect public safety. The high completion rate of preparedness measures indicates the government's confidence in its capacity to manage monsoon-related challenges effectively.
