Tamil Nadu highways department seeks consultants for OMR-ECR link project

The highways department in Tamil Nadu has floated a tender seeking qualified consultants to develop a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed corridor connecting the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) and East Coast Road (ECR). This connectivity project aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the Chennai metropolitan region.

According to the department's specifications, the consultants appointed will be required to complete the comprehensive feasibility study and project report within a three-month timeframe. The DPR will form the basis for all subsequent project planning, environmental clearances, and implementation phases.

The proposed link is expected to facilitate better connectivity between two major arterial roads that serve significant commercial, residential, and industrial areas in and around Chennai. Such connections typically aim to decongest existing routes and provide alternate pathways for vehicular traffic.

The department's move to hire external consultants for the DPR indicates the project's priority status within the state's infrastructure development agenda. The timeline of three months suggests the department intends to expedite the planning phase and move toward approval and implementation.
