Tamil Nadu intensifies search for five fishermen missing after cyclone

The search and rescue operation has been expanded following the engine breakdown that left the Kasimedu-based fishing vessel stranded in rough seas triggered by the cyclonic weather system. The boat had set out from Chennai on October 29 as Cyclone Murasu approached the coast. The mechanical failure occurred near Ramayapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh on November 3, leaving the crew in distress.

According to the Tamil Nadu Government, four of the nine fishermen have been located and rescued, while authorities continue intensive efforts to locate the five missing crew members. Rescue teams have been deployed across the affected maritime zone, coordinating with coast guard units and fisheries departments to comb the waters where the vessel was last reported.

The incident underscores the risks faced by fishing communities operating along the Bay of Bengal, particularly during cyclone seasons. Authorities have urged fishermen to exercise extreme caution and avoid venturing into sea when severe weather warnings are issued. The state government has also assured that all necessary resources are being mobilized to ensure the safe recovery of the missing fishermen.
