Tamil Nadu launches gold ring scheme for newborns at government hospitals
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has inaugurated the Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam, a welfare scheme that will present one-gram gold rings to all infants born in the state's government hospitals from June 22 onwards.

The scheme was launched in Madurai on Tuesday as part of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's electoral commitments. Under the initiative, every newborn delivered at government medical facilities from June 22—the Chief Minister's birthday—will receive a complimentary gold ring weighing one gram. Officials said the programme aims to promote institutional deliveries and provide financial assistance to families at the time of birth. The state government has allocated resources to implement the scheme across all government hospitals and maternity centers in Tamil Nadu. This marks one of several welfare initiatives announced by the DMK government in its recent policy announcements.
