Tamil Nadu launches probe after mass poultry deaths in Cuddalore

Health officials in Tamil Nadu have escalated monitoring efforts at poultry farms across Cuddalore district after a significant die-off claimed more than 5,000 birds over recent days. The outbreak was first documented at a farm in Thammanampettai village within Thiyagavalli panchayat, where initial reports indicated the death of approximately 200 to 250 chickens.

Official sources confirmed that avian influenza has been excluded as a causative factor following preliminary investigations. The ruling out of the highly contagious disease has redirected attention toward other potential causes, including environmental stress, disease pathogens, or farm management-related factors.

State veterinary and health authorities have increased surveillance protocols at affected and neighbouring poultry establishments to prevent further mortality and contain any potential disease spread. Samples from affected birds have been collected for detailed laboratory analysis to determine the exact cause of the deaths.

Poultry farmers in the region have been advised to maintain strict biosecurity measures and report any unusual mortality patterns to local authorities. The district administration has assured stakeholders that comprehensive investigations are underway and that findings will be shared once analysis is complete.
