Tamil Nadu Minister Seeks Anticipatory Bail After I-T Returns Submission

CHENNAI — Tamil Nadu Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with an ongoing investigation, stating that he has partially complied with police demands to produce income tax returns.

In his petition before the court, Poyyamozhi disclosed that the Criminal Investigation Bureau had sought his I-T returns, along with those of his wife and mother-in-law, covering the preceding ten years. He informed the bench that he had begun submitting the requested documents to the investigating agency.

The minister's counsel emphasized his cooperation with authorities as a key ground for granting anticipatory bail. The submission underscores Poyyamozhi's position that he has taken steps to assist the investigation rather than evade scrutiny.

Anticipatory bail petitions are typically filed by individuals who fear arrest and seek the court's protection from being taken into custody prior to formal charges being filed. The high court's decision on the petition remains pending.
