Former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has criticised Tamil Nadu's current administration for not adequately addressing a major international drug trafficking case intercepted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.

Palaniswami, who leads the AIADMK opposition in the state assembly, questioned Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's handling of the narcotics case, suggesting the government has not made sufficient public statements or taken aggressive action against the smuggling network.
The controversy centres on a significant drug haul seized by the DRI, which Indian customs officials confirmed involved international smuggling operations. Palaniswami contended that the state government's muted response raises questions about the seriousness with which authorities are treating the matter.
The former chief minister's remarks reflect broader opposition criticism of the DMK-led government's law and order record. Opposition parties have frequently targeted the administration over drugs and organised crime issues, arguing that public safety concerns warrant more forceful governmental responses.
The DRI seizure represents one of several major narcotics busts recorded across South India in recent months, highlighting trafficking routes connecting international suppliers to domestic markets. Officials have indicated that investigations into the seized contraband remain ongoing, with authorities attempting to dismantle the broader criminal network responsible for the smuggling operation.
The state government has not yet issued a detailed public response to Palaniswami's criticism regarding its approach to the drug trafficking case.
