Tamil Nadu opposition leader to observe Thevar Jayanthi at Pasumpon

Edappadi Palaniswami, the principal opposition figure in Tamil Nadu's legislative assembly, will participate in observances marking Thevar Jayanthi on October 30 at Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram district. The annual event celebrates the birth anniversary of Periyar Thanthai Thevar, the influential 20th-century social activist and community leader who championed the rights of marginalized sections of Tamil society. Palaniswami's visit underscores the AIADMK's continued engagement with grassroots constituencies and social reform movements that remain culturally significant in the state. Thevar Jayanthi is observed across Tamil Nadu and parts of Karnataka and Puducherry, with various political and social organizations holding events to honor the reformer's legacy. The observance typically includes ceremonies, discussions on social welfare, and reaffirmations of commitment to the principles of equality and social justice that Thevar championed during his lifetime.
