Tamil Nadu prepares for October bypolls with EVM randomisation

Election authorities in Tamil Nadu have commenced technical preparations for the upcoming Assembly bypolls in Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies, with the first randomisation of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and VVPAT units completed on September 12. The randomisation process is a standard procedural requirement that ensures the impartial allocation of voting equipment across polling stations and serves as a transparency measure in the electoral process.

The bypolls to both Assembly segments are scheduled to be held on October 6, as per the election calendar announced by the authorities. The randomisation exercise forms part of the comprehensive preparatory framework that precedes polling day, allowing election officials to verify equipment functionality and ensure proper distribution.

The VVPAT units, which generate a paper trail of electronic votes cast, are integral to maintaining electoral credibility and enabling voter verification.
