The scheme, which provides breakfast to schoolchildren across the state, will now be known as the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme. The renaming decision reflects the government's intention to honour the legacy of Kamarajar, who served as Tamil Nadu's chief minister and played a significant role in India's independence movement.
Kamarajar is remembered as one of Tamil Nadu's most influential political figures of the 20th century. His contributions to education and social welfare programmes left a lasting impact on the state's development trajectory.
The breakfast scheme has been a flagship programme aimed at improving nutritional standards among school-going children from economically weaker sections. By associating the initiative with Kamarajar's name, the government seeks to reinforce its commitment to educational welfare and social development.
The renamed scheme will continue its operations across Tamil Nadu's schools with the same objectives and coverage, now bearing the identity of one of the state's most revered political leaders.
