Tamil Nadu to create 29,108 new police posts over five years

Tamil Nadu will establish nearly 30,000 additional police posts over the next five years as part of a major law enforcement expansion, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said. The phased recruitment drive aims to strengthen policing infrastructure across the state and improve public safety coverage.

The state government plans to induct 10,000 police personnel during the current financial year, of which 5,000 positions will be reserved for women officers. This initial recruitment phase represents a significant component of the larger five-year expansion programme.

The move reflects the government's commitment to modernising law enforcement and addressing manpower shortages in police departments across districts and municipalities. The emphasis on women recruitment aligns with ongoing efforts to increase female representation in Tamil Nadu's security forces.

The expansion programme is expected to enhance police presence in both urban and rural areas, strengthening the state's capacity to maintain law and order and respond to public safety challenges more effectively.
