Tamil Nadu to establish college for minority women students

The Tamil Nadu government is set to establish a new college in Chennai dedicated to serving women from minority communities, according to an announcement by a state minister. The institution aims to provide enhanced educational opportunities for students from underrepresented sections of society.

Educational assistance programmes for Muslim girl students will be expanded beyond Class 8 under the new initiative, broadening access to higher education for a demographic that has traditionally faced barriers to schooling. The move signals the government's commitment to inclusive education across the state.

To support the college and related educational programmes, the government will establish a dedicated Minority Backward Classes (MBC) Welfare Board with an allocated budget of ₹3 crore. The board will oversee implementation of welfare schemes and ensure effective delivery of educational benefits to target beneficiaries.

The initiative aligns with broader efforts in Tamil Nadu to improve educational access for disadvantaged communities and advance gender equity in higher education. Officials have indicated that the college will provide comprehensive support infrastructure for students from minority backgrounds.
