Tamil Nadu to gift gold rings to newborns under new welfare scheme

Tamil Nadu will begin distributing gold rings to newborns delivered at state-run medical facilities through a newly launched welfare programme. The scheme, known as 'Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam', aims to provide each infant with a one-gram ring made of 22-carat gold.

Chief Minister MK Stalin will formally inaugurate the initiative on September 28, marking the start of the programme across government hospitals in the state. The move is part of the state administration's broader initiative to provide financial assistance and welfare benefits to economically disadvantaged families.

The gold ring distribution scheme targets newborns born in government-run hospitals, extending support to families who rely on public healthcare infrastructure. Officials said the programme underscores the government's commitment to maternal and child welfare services across Tamil Nadu.
