Tamil Nadu to provide cars, assistants to all MLAs for constituency duties

Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled a comprehensive support scheme for state legislators during an assembly session, aimed at strengthening constituency-level governance and administrative capacity. The scheme will extend to all elected MLAs across the state, ensuring uniform access to resources for their grassroots engagement.

Under the new framework, each MLA will receive a dedicated vehicle for constituency work, supported by a monthly maintenance grant of ₹75,000. This allocation will cover vehicle upkeep, fuel expenses, and driver compensation, addressing the operational costs associated with regular constituency visits and public engagement activities.

In addition to transport facilities, every MLA will be entitled to employ a personal assistant at a monthly stipend of ₹25,000. The assistant role is intended to support MLAs in managing administrative workload, documentation, and coordination with constituents, thereby enhancing the efficiency of local-level representation.

The scheme reflects the government's commitment to strengthening the capacity of elected representatives to serve their constituencies more effectively. By providing standardized support infrastructure, the initiative seeks to level the playing field across legislative constituencies, particularly benefiting representatives from resource-constrained areas.
