Tamil Nadu to reimburse LPG cylinder costs from Pongal 2027, CM Vijay announces

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin outlined plans for the state to reimburse households for three LPG cylinders per year starting from Pongal 2027, marking the implementation of a major campaign promise from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The initiative aims to provide relief to domestic consumers as part of the government's welfare measures.

The reimbursement scheme represents one of the TVK's flagship electoral pledges made during the 2026 Assembly elections campaign. Party leaders had promised six free cooking gas cylinders annually to households, positioning energy cost relief as a central component of their development agenda for the state.

The phased rollout beginning in January 2027 will make Tamil Nadu one of several Indian states offering direct subsidies on cooking gas to residents. The scheme is expected to benefit millions of households across the state, reducing the financial burden of essential domestic energy consumption.
