Tamil Nadu unveils marriage benefit scheme with gold coins, silk sarees

Tamil Nadu has announced a marriage welfare scheme aimed at supporting women from economically disadvantaged households. Under the 'Annaan Seer' programme, eligible brides will receive an 8-gram gold coin of 22-carat purity and a silk saree at the time of their wedding.

The scheme targets women from families with an annual household income not exceeding ₹2.5 lakh. The state government has sanctioned ₹812 crore as the first instalment to fund the initiative, signalling its commitment to the programme's implementation.

The benefits will apply to marriages solemnised after the formal issuance of the government order. The scheme reflects the state's efforts to ease the financial burden on families during wedding ceremonies, a significant social occasion in Tamil Nadu.

Eligible beneficiaries will need to comply with the scheme's registration and verification procedures to receive their gold coins and silk garments. Officials indicated that the distribution mechanism would be streamlined to ensure smooth implementation across the state.
