Tarlac declares state of calamity as monsoon rains wreak havoc

Tarlac Governor Christian Yap announced Sunday that the provincial government has declared a state of calamity in response to widespread destruction caused by the southwest monsoon. The declaration, formalized through Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 416-2026, was recommended by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council following assessment of storm-related damages across the province.
The state of calamity designation enables local authorities to mobilize emergency resources and expedite relief and recovery operations in affected areas. The declaration also allows the provincial government to access calamity funds and coordinate with national agencies for additional assistance.
The southwest monsoon has brought heavy rainfall to various parts of Tarlac, causing flooding and damage to infrastructure and agricultural areas. The province joins other regions in Luzon that have been impacted by the current weather system.
Governor Yap's office did not immediately provide details on the extent of casualties or specific areas most severely affected by the monsoon rains. The provincial government is expected to release a comprehensive damage assessment in the coming days.
