Tarlac's Agana Bridge to resume operations following partial collapse

MANILA — The Agana Bridge in Tarlac province is poised to resume limited operations by early this week, marking the reopening of a critical local thoroughfare damaged by a partial collapse nearly three weeks ago. Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon indicated Sunday that pedestrian and light vehicle traffic could return to the bridge by Monday or Tuesday, contingent on completion of final safety assessments.

The bridge's structural failure occurred following an extended period of heavy rainfall and elevated river currents that weakened the crossing. Initial inspections by the Department of Public Works and Highways revealed damage consistent with the force of swollen waterways during the inclement weather.

Dizon's announcement came during an on-site inspection of the reconstruction efforts. The secretary's visit underscored the government's commitment to restoring connectivity in the affected area while ensuring public safety standards are maintained prior to reopening.

The restoration of the Agana Bridge is expected to alleviate transportation disruptions that have affected residents and commerce in the region during the three-week closure. Officials have not indicated restrictions on vehicle weight or type beyond the current limitations for pedestrians and light vehicles during the initial reopening phase.
