CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — With less than a month remaining before the Sept. 14 Bangsamoro parliamentary elections, authorities are moving to enhance oversight of media coverage in the conflict-affected region. The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) has been directed to establish media monitoring centers in Cotabato and Marawi cities ahead of the historic vote.
Undersecretary Jose Torres Jr., who heads PTFoMS as executive director, confirmed that Executive Secretary Ralph Recto issued the directive to set up the monitoring facilities. The centers are intended to ensure fair and responsible media coverage during the electoral period.
The elections mark a significant milestone in the Bangsamoro governance structure, making media security and oversight critical concerns for officials overseeing the electoral process. The monitoring centers will serve as focal points for tracking media activities and ensuring compliance with electoral guidelines throughout the campaign period and voting day.
Official details regarding the specific functions and operational scope of the centers have not yet been fully disclosed. However, the move reflects heightened attention to media conduct in the region as election day approaches.
