Tata Consumer strengthens grip on Capital Foods with stake increase

Tata Consumer Products has expanded its stake in Capital Foods, the manufacturer behind the widely-recognised Ching's Secret and Smith & Jones brands, by acquiring an additional 5 per cent holding from Wildflower Private Trust. The transaction elevates the consumer goods company's total shareholding in Capital Foods to 80 per cent.

Capital Foods has established itself as a significant player in India's packaged food and condiment market, with Ching's Secret gaining considerable market share in the sauces and noodles segment, while Smith & Jones operates in the ready-to-cook and convenience foods category. The company has built strong distribution networks across retail and e-commerce channels.

This acquisition reflects Tata Consumer Products' strategic focus on consolidating its position within the branded packaged food sector. By increasing its majority stake, Tata Consumer gains greater operational control and strategic direction over Capital Foods' portfolio and growth initiatives.

The move is consistent with Tata Consumer's broader expansion strategy in the food and beverages space, where it competes alongside other major Indian consumer conglomerates in capturing growing demand for convenient, branded food products across urban and semi-urban markets.
