Tata Power has entered into an agreement with BPCL to design, build and operate 110 kilovolt electrical infrastructure at the state-owned refiner's Mumbai facility. The arrangement is aimed at meeting the substantial power demands of BPCL's upcoming Petro Resid Fluidised Catalytic Cracking Unit, or PRFCCU, a key expansion project at the refinery.
The PRFCCU project requires 90 megawatts of dedicated power supply to operate efficiently. Tata Power's infrastructure development will form a critical part of the refinery's expansion strategy, enabling the facility to process a wider range of crude oil feedstocks and enhance operational capacity.
The memorandum of understanding marks a significant collaboration between India's largest private power utility and one of the nation's major petroleum infrastructure operators. Such partnerships are increasingly common as India's industrial sector seeks reliable power supply solutions to support expansion and modernization initiatives.
The Mumbai refinery expansion project is part of BPCL's broader capital investment programme to strengthen its domestic refining capacity. The new processing unit is expected to improve the refinery's efficiency and product slate, supporting India's evolving energy demands.
