COTABATO CITY — Tawi-Tawi residents are grappling with soaring fuel costs that threaten to destabilize critical economic sectors, prompting calls for immediate government action. Gasoline prices have climbed to P140 per liter, while diesel has reached P110 per liter, according to a member of the Bangsamoro Parliament who raised the alarm over the supply shortage gripping the island-province.

The price surge has created mounting pressure on transport operators and fishing communities that depend heavily on affordable fuel. Fishing, a mainstay of the local economy, faces particular strain as boat operators contend with sharply elevated operating costs. Public transportation services have also felt the squeeze, with increased fares likely to follow.

The Bangsamoro Parliament member has appealed to regional authorities to intervene swiftly, emphasizing the urgent need to stabilize fuel supplies and prevent further economic deterioration. The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) government has not yet issued a formal response to the concerns raised about the shortage.
