A taxi ferrying pilgrims from Gujarat met with a fatal accident when it veered off the road and plummeted into the Bhagirathi river in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Two passengers from the group remain unaccounted for following the mishap. Rescue teams have launched search operations in the river to locate the missing individuals. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be established, though preliminary reports suggest the vehicle may have lost control while navigating the treacherous mountain terrain.

Uttarkashi, located in the northern reaches of Uttarakhand, is a popular destination for pilgrims undertaking journeys to various religious sites in the Himalayas. The region's challenging road conditions and steep river gorges present significant hazards for vehicular traffic.
