TCS to Prioritise Digital, AI Skills in Recruitment Drive

India's largest IT services company will prioritise recruiting professionals with digital and artificial intelligence capabilities, with up to 80 per cent of new hires expected to possess these skill sets going forward, according to a senior company executive.

TCS Chief Operating Officer Arathi Subramanian said the company added 4,500 employees in the second quarter, with between 25 and 30 per cent possessing specialised AI expertise and approximately 80 per cent representing "new age" talent. The company plans to maintain this hiring proportion as it expands its AI-focused workforce.

With AI-led work growing to represent 10 per cent of total revenue in the recently concluded September quarter, TCS believes increasing the share of artificial intelligence revenues will support efforts to expand profit margins that currently remain below the company's target levels. Subramanian indicated that desired talent remains available in the employment market to support this strategic shift.

The move reflects broader industry trends as Indian IT services firms increasingly invest in emerging technologies to differentiate offerings and improve operational efficiency. TCS' emphasis on recruiting digital-native talent underscores the sector's growing dependence on artificial intelligence and advanced digital capabilities to drive future growth and profitability.
