TDP-led NDA sweeps local body elections across Rayalaseema districts
The Telugu Desam Party-led National Democratic Alliance has made significant gains in ZPTC and MPTC elections across three Rayalaseema districts. The results have triggered strong reactions from opposition parties, with one former minister demanding recounts after narrow defeats.

The Telugu Desam Party and its National Democratic Alliance allies have secured substantial victories in Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) elections held across three districts in Rayalaseema region. The electoral performance marks a major consolidation of TDP support in the backward region.
The results have drawn sharp reactions from the opposition YSR Congress Party, which faced significant losses in the balloting. At a counting centre in Illathuru within Vijayapuram mandal, former state minister Roja expressed her dismay over a close contest where a YSRCP nominee lost to the TDP contestant by a margin of just three votes. She subsequently called for a recount of votes in the constituency, citing concerns over the narrow defeat.
The ZPTC and MPTC elections, which determine representation at the district and mandal levels respectively, are considered important indicators of ground-level political sentiment ahead of larger electoral contests. The TDP's performance across the three Rayalaseema districts suggests the party has retained or improved its organizational presence in the region, which has historically been viewed as a key political battleground in Andhra Pradesh.
