The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Wednesday rejected claims by the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) that electoral obstruction prevented its participation in the local body elections across Andhra Pradesh. TDP MLC Bhumireddy countered that the YSRCP's allegations were misleading, citing the party's inability to field candidates even in constituencies considered its traditional strongholds.
Bhumireddy pointed to specific areas where the YSRCP failed to contest, including Pulivendula, Rajampet, and Mydukur—all regions where the party has previously maintained significant political presence. The absence of YSRCP candidates in these constituencies raised questions about the party's actual capacity to participate in the elections, the TDP leader argued.
The exchange reflects ongoing tensions between the two parties as local body elections continue across Andhra Pradesh. While the YSRCP has attributed its limited participation to administrative hurdles and procedural obstacles, the TDP's response suggests the party views such claims as attempts to deflect from organizational challenges within the YSRCP itself.
The elections, which determine representation in municipal corporations, municipalities, and gram panchayats across the state, have become a battleground for both parties to demonstrate their grassroots strength following recent state assembly elections.
