TDP's commitment to backward castes remains steadfast, claims Rajya Sabha member
A senior Telugu Desam Party leader has reasserted the party's unwavering support for backward communities, while accusing the opposition YSRCP of exploiting caste issues to deflect from corruption investigations.

Rajya Sabha member Vijay of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has underscored the party's strong bond with backward castes (BCs), asserting that the relationship remains as robust as ever. Speaking in his capacity as a senior party leader, Vijay emphasized the TDP's historical commitment to the welfare and representation of BC communities in Andhra Pradesh.
The TDP leader leveled sharp criticism at the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), contending that the rival party has adopted BC-related issues as a tactical instrument. According to Vijay, the YSRCP is leveraging caste narratives to divert public attention from serious allegations facing its senior functionaries, including ongoing Enforcement Directorate investigations into liquor scams and various other financial irregularities.
Vijay cautioned the YSRCP that the strategy would prove counterproductive, warning that the party faces significantly deteriorating electoral prospects unless it undertakes fundamental course corrections. The TDP leader's remarks come amid intensifying political rivalry in Andhra Pradesh, where both parties continue to contest for backward caste support ahead of the 2029 general elections.
