TDP set for smooth sailing in Kadapa mayoral race as YSRCP sits out

The Telugu Desam Party appeared poised for an uncontested victory in the Kadapa Municipality mayoral election after its candidate Matli Suvarna submitted her nomination papers without facing opposition from rival parties. The YSRCP's decision to abstain from the contest removes the primary challenger that typically contests municipal positions in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa district.

The political development coincides with a significant security crackdown following violent clashes over the weekend. District police have registered cases against 63 individuals in Pulivendula in connection with Saturday's violent incidents. The clashes appear to have involved members of both major parties, with authorities taking preventive action across the political spectrum.

In response to the deteriorating law and order situation, police have placed leaders from both the TDP and YSRCP under house arrest as a precautionary measure to prevent further escalation. The move reflects official concerns about maintaining peace during the municipal election process, which has historically witnessed intense inter-party rivalries in the region.

With the YSRCP's withdrawal from the mayoral contest and the current security measures in place, the TDP appears set to secure the Kadapa Municipality mayor's position with minimal electoral competition. The outcome will strengthen the party's municipal governance in the district ahead of broader state-level political developments.
