Teachers' group demands Castro retract statement on Zamboanga shooting

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers has called on Palace Press Officer Claire Castro to apologize and withdraw remarks that accused some educators of setting a poor example following the Zamboanga school shooting incident.

MANILA — The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) on Wednesday issued a formal demand for an apology from Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, challenging her recent statements about teachers in connection with the Zamboanga school shooting.

ACT called on Castro to retract her remarks, which the group said unfairly characterized some teachers as setting an example of disrespectful behavior in their response to the incident. The teachers' organization contended that the accusations were unwarranted and reflected poorly on the teaching profession during a sensitive time.

The dispute underscores ongoing tensions between education sector representatives and government officials over public statements and policy matters. ACT has historically served as a vocal advocate for teachers' rights and professional concerns in the Philippines.

As of Wednesday, there was no immediate public response from Castro or the Palace regarding ACT's demand for a retraction and apology.
