Teen Developer Creates Cancer Education Game for Young Students

Daniel Zhang, a high school student, has created Tumor Tactics, an educational gaming platform designed to make the complexities of cancer biology comprehensible for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. The project emerged from Zhang's desire to help young people understand a disease that has affected his own family, particularly his grandmother's health struggles.

The game-based learning approach transforms potentially intimidating scientific concepts into engaging, interactive experiences. By incorporating game mechanics with factual cancer education, Tumor Tactics makes oncology accessible to younger audiences who might otherwise find the subject matter overwhelming or inaccessible.

The initiative has demonstrated measurable impact, with the platform already engaging more than 1,500 K-8 students. Zhang's work has attracted sufficient support and recognition to secure funding for further development and expansion of the project's reach.

Beyond his work on Tumor Tactics, Zhang is involved with STEAMLabs International, an organization focused on promoting science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics education to students. His cancer education game will be featured at the United Nations Science Summit, providing a platform to showcase innovation in science education at an international level.
