SHAH ALAM — A teenager died following an electrical shock sustained while touching a lamp post in Taman Pancaran, Kuala Selangor, authorities said on Monday.
The incident occurred when the youth made contact with the metal fixture during a break in a futsal match. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but the teenager could not be revived.
Kuala Selangor police have launched an investigation into the fatality. Preliminary findings suggest the lamp post may have been faulty or inadequately grounded, though authorities have not ruled out other contributing factors.
The case has renewed concerns about the maintenance standards of public infrastructure in the district. Relevant authorities have been notified to conduct safety inspections of similar installations in public recreational areas.
