Teen electrocuted in flood-hit Bulacan village

A 17-year-old girl died after coming into contact with a live electrical wire in flood-affected Calumpit, Bulacan on Wednesday. The victim was declared dead on arrival at hospital.

CALUMPIT, Bulacan — A teenager lost her life to electrocution in this flood-stricken municipality after touching an exposed live wire, provincial authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Ojo Rhian Joy Martinez, 17, came into contact with the energized wire in a submerged residential area of Calumpit. She was immediately transported to the nearest medical facility by residents who witnessed the incident, according to reports received by the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Medical personnel pronounced the girl dead on arrival, according to initial reports. The fatality underscores the hazards residents face during flooding, when electrical infrastructure becomes increasingly dangerous due to water exposure.

The incident occurred on August 19 amid flooding conditions affecting the province. Authorities did not immediately provide additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the electrocution.
