Teen entrepreneur launches STEM outreach for rural youth in Canada

Amara Wilson-Zegil, a secondary school student from Ontario, has established Project RISE to address significant gaps in STEM education availability across rural areas. The initiative represents a targeted effort to ensure that geographic location does not limit young people's exposure to technology and engineering disciplines.

Through robotics programmes and educational camps, the project has reached more than 1,800 students in Northern Ontario. The hands-on approach provides practical experience with coding, robotics and problem-solving techniques that are increasingly central to modern educational pathways.

Educational disparities between urban and rural regions have long been documented as a barrier to equitable opportunity in technical fields. Project RISE seeks to counter this trend by bringing quality STEM experiences directly to communities that traditionally have limited access to such resources.

Wilson-Zegil's effort reflects growing recognition among young leaders that targeted interventions are necessary to broaden participation in technology and engineering sectors. The project demonstrates how student-led initiatives can complement existing educational structures to create more inclusive learning opportunities.
