The incident occurred in Sikandarpurbajha village in Kaushambi district when the teenager climbed the tower in protest against her family's refusal to approve her marriage proposal. The opposition stemmed from caste-based differences between the girl and her prospective partner.
Police and local administration launched a rescue operation at the site. Negotiators worked for approximately three hours to convince the girl to descend safely from the tower.
"We are questioning the teenager to understand the circumstances that led to this incident," said Nagendra Singh, the in-charge officer at Sandipan Ghat police station. "Our priority was to ensure her safe rescue."
The incident highlights ongoing tensions in parts of Uttar Pradesh related to inter-caste relationships, despite legal protections and awareness campaigns. Authorities said they are investigating the matter further to determine if any criminal proceedings are warranted.
The girl has been handed over to her family following her rescue. Counselling sessions have been recommended by local social welfare officials.
