Teen's Inclusive Kickball League Grows to Six Teams, 40+ Players
A 16-year-old's vision to create an inclusive sports programme has blossomed into a thriving kickball league that brings together students with special needs and dedicated volunteers. The initiative, which began as a single charity match, has expanded significantly with Lucas Rojas earning recognition for his inclusive sports advocacy.

Lucas Rojas transformed a one-time inclusive kickball game into LINKball, a multi-team league that has become a model for accessible youth sports programming. What started as a charitable match between students with special needs and volunteer participants has evolved into a well-structured league comprising six teams and attracting more than 40 players each season.
The programme's success reflects Rojas's commitment to creating spaces where students with varying abilities can participate in organized sports alongside enthusiastic volunteers. Each season, the league mobilizes approximately 60 volunteers who support the players and facilitate matches, underscoring the broad community engagement the initiative has generated.
Recognizing the impact of his work, Rojas was awarded the $10,000 Gloria Barron Prize, a prestigious honour celebrating young leaders who demonstrate exceptional community service. The prize acknowledges his role in advancing inclusivity through sports and promoting teamwork among diverse groups of young people.
The growth of LINKball illustrates how youth-led initiatives can address gaps in accessible recreation and foster meaningful connections across communities.
