Oscar Whitfield, 14, has secured the top honour in the youth category of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2026 competition following a successful family game drive in Zimbabwe. The teenager's compelling image of a dung beetle stood out among entries from young photographers worldwide, demonstrating technical skill and creative vision that impressed the competition's judges.
The annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards celebrate outstanding visual storytelling in nature photography. This year's winners also include Federico Veronesi, Amelie Davis, and James Lewin, each recognised for their distinctive interpretations of wildlife subjects and habitats.
The winning photographs will be displayed in a major exhibition opening at the Natural History Museum on Friday, 16 October 2026. The exhibition promises to showcase the year's most compelling wildlife imagery, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the winning photographers' perspectives on the natural world. The competition continues to serve as a platform for both established and emerging photographers to highlight wildlife conservation through visual art.
