Telangana braces for dengue surge as week-long rainfall expected

The Telangana Health Department has sounded an alert regarding the anticipated increase in dengue and viral fever cases following a week-long rainfall forecast for the state. Extended wet weather conditions are known to create ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes, particularly the Aedes aegypti species responsible for dengue transmission.

Health officials have advised residents to take precautionary measures including the elimination of stagnant water in and around residential areas, use of mosquito nets, and application of insect repellents. The department has also recommended that people seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms such as high fever, body aches, and rashes.

Authorities have instructed hospitals and health centres across Telangana to enhance their preparedness and maintain adequate stocks of diagnostic kits and medicines for dengue management. Field surveillance teams have been mobilised to conduct awareness campaigns in vulnerable areas and monitor disease trends closely during the forecast rainy period.

The warning comes as South and Southeast Asia typically experience increased dengue transmission during and following monsoon seasons. Citizens have been urged to maintain environmental sanitation and report any suspected cases to nearby health facilities promptly.
