Telangana CM Orders Inquiry Into BRS Leader's Land Holdings

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed authorities to investigate land holdings of the family of K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the former CM and BRS supremo, during parliamentary proceedings on a controversial properties list.

Addressing the ongoing debate surrounding the 22-A prohibited properties list in the state assembly, Reddy alleged that the BRS had deliberately attempted to obstruct legislative business, anticipating that several contentious matters would be raised during the session.

The development marks an intensification of political friction between the Congress government, which came to power in December 2023, and the BRS, which governed Telangana for a decade before losing the elections. The move signals the administration's intent to scrutinize land transactions during the previous regime.

The inquiry announcement comes as the state government continues its broader examination of administrative and financial decisions made under BRS rule. The prohibited properties list has become a focal point of legislative debate, with the government indicating its commitment to addressing alleged irregularities in land management.

BRS officials have previously criticized such inquiries as politically motivated. The party maintains that its policies, including land acquisition initiatives, were legitimate governance decisions undertaken in the state's interest.
