Officials in Telangana have responded with caution to recent overtures from the Andhra Pradesh government regarding settlement of pending bifurcation-related matters. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's suggestion of a flexible, negotiated approach to resolving disputes has been met with scepticism by the Telangana administration, which maintains that all outstanding issues must be settled strictly in accordance with the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
Telangana's firm position reflects the state's commitment to the legal framework that governed its separation from Andhra Pradesh a decade ago. Officials have signalled that any deviation from the statutory provisions could set problematic precedents and undermine the constitutional basis upon which the bifurcation was effected.
The two states have grappled with multiple unresolved matters since the 2014 split, ranging from asset distribution to water-sharing arrangements. While both governments have periodically engaged in discussions, fundamental disagreements persist on key issues.
Telangana's cautious response suggests that despite informal diplomatic overtures, substantive progress on bifurcation disputes may remain limited unless the Andhra Pradesh government aligns fully with the provisions of the Reorganisation Act. Officials indicated that the state would continue to engage through established legal and administrative channels while maintaining its principled stance on statutory compliance.
