Telangana doubles AYUSH stipends to match allopathic medical trainees
The Telangana government has significantly raised monthly stipends for AYUSH house surgeons and postgraduate students, bringing them in line with remuneration paid to corresponding allopathic medical professionals.

House surgeons in AYUSH disciplines across Telangana will now receive ₹29,792 per month, more than double the previous stipend of ₹13,754. The enhancement represents a major revision in compensation for junior doctors in traditional medicine systems including Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.
Third-year postgraduate students in AYUSH fields have seen an even steeper increase, with monthly stipends rising from ₹34,385 to ₹74,482. The state government's decision aims to address the long-standing disparity between compensation packages offered to AYUSH trainees and their allopathic counterparts.
The revised stipend structure brings AYUSH house surgeons and postgraduate students to parity with junior doctors in the conventional medical system, a move intended to enhance recruitment and retention in traditional medicine programmes. Officials said the increase reflects the government's commitment to strengthening AYUSH education and practice in the state.
The decision is expected to boost the appeal of AYUSH medical careers among students and improve working conditions for trainee doctors in these disciplines. Telangana has increasingly focused on integrating traditional medicine systems into its broader healthcare framework.
