Telangana Employees to Launch Agitation from September 1 Over Pension Scheme

Telangana's employee unions have called for coordinated agitation starting September 1 to push their long-standing demands regarding pension and allowance reforms. The joint action committee representing various government employee associations is seeking immediate scrapping of the Contributory Pension Scheme, which was implemented for newly hired staff members.

The agitation will focus on three key demands: restoration of the Old Pension Scheme for all employees, implementation of pending Pay Revision Commission recommendations, and enhanced dearness allowance provisions. The JAC contends that the current contributory framework places undue financial burden on workers and lacks the security guarantees of the traditional pension model.

The planned protest represents an escalation in employee grievances that have simmered since the implementation of the contributory scheme. State government employees have previously voiced concerns about reduced pension benefits and inadequate retirement security under the new system compared to the Old Pension Scheme previously in effect.

The agitation announcement comes amid broader discussions in several Indian states regarding pension reform policies. Telangana's employee organizations are demanding that state authorities reconsider the shift toward contributory schemes and restore provisions they argue provide better social security coverage for retiring workers.
