Telangana MPs lag in MPLAD fund utilisation at 23.8 percent

Members of Parliament from Telangana have spent barely a quarter of their allocated MPLAD funds during the assessment period, with utilisation standing at just 23.8 percent. The 23 MPs were granted ₹394.8 crore under the scheme but managed to spend only ₹94 crore, indicating a substantial shortfall in implementation.

The state's performance trails the national average of 33 percent fund utilisation across all parliamentary constituencies. MPLAD, a centrally sponsored scheme, empowers MPs to recommend development projects in their respective constituencies, typically focusing on infrastructure, education, health, and water supply initiatives.

The significant gap between allocated and spent funds raises questions about project planning, execution challenges, and administrative bottlenecks that may be hindering timely utilisation. Low MPLAD spending can result in delayed local development work and underutilised resources that could benefit communities across Telangana.

This utilisation pattern suggests that several Telangana MPs may face challenges in identifying suitable projects, obtaining necessary approvals, or completing works within the stipulated timelines. The disparity between allocation and spending underscores the need for improved coordination between parliamentary offices and local authorities to accelerate fund utilisation and ensure community benefits.
