Telangana pushes Centre to speed up Polavaram drainage studies

Telangana has appealed to the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti to accelerate studies on drainage congestion challenges facing the Polavaram irrigation project at its Full Reservoir Level (FRL). The state's Irrigation Secretary conveyed the request in a formal communication to the central government, underscoring the urgency of addressing the technical concerns.
The appeal follows a field investigation conducted in June by a inter-agency team that examined zones experiencing submergence and backwater-related impacts from the project. The inspection provided ground-level assessment of the drainage issues that require detailed hydrological and engineering analysis.
Polavaram, a major multi-purpose project on the Godavari River, has been a focal point of coordination between Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and the Centre.
