Telangana reports no complaints on E20 petrol impact on vehicles

The Telangana transport department has not received any formal complaints about vehicle damage linked to the use of E20 petrol, according to transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar. E20 fuel, which contains 20 percent ethanol blended with conventional petrol, has been introduced as part of India's push toward cleaner fuel alternatives and reduced dependence on crude oil imports.

While the absence of complaints suggests smooth adoption in the state, industry experts acknowledge that E20 fuel does result in measurable performance trade-offs. Vehicles running on ethanol-blended petrol typically experience a 3 to 5 percent reduction in pickup acceleration and fuel efficiency compared to standard petrol. This reduction occurs because ethanol has a lower energy content than conventional petrol.

The government has promoted E20 adoption as an environmentally sustainable fuel option that reduces carbon emissions. However, car owners must weigh the environmental benefits against the slight decrease in vehicle performance and mileage. The fuel is compatible with flex-fuel vehicles and many modern cars manufactured in recent years.

As E20 availability expands across Indian fuel stations, monitoring of consumer experience remains important. The lack of damage complaints in Telangana suggests that vehicles are tolerating the fuel blend without mechanical issues, though owners should verify their vehicle's compatibility before switching to E20.
